It’s the story of a young student taking their first confident steps across a bustling Davao street. It’s the sound of learning to navigate obstacles, mapping out the world through sound and touch, and choosing courage over fear every single day.
Today, as we observe National White Cane Safety Day across the Philippines (pursuant to Republic Act 6759), the Davao School for the Blind joins the nation in celebrating more than just a tool—we celebrate independence, dignity, and inclusion.
The white cane is a symbol of mobility and self-reliance. But true accessibility requires a community that sees, understands, and respects it:
On the road: Yielding right-of-way when you see a white cane in motion.
In our city: Building accessible, obstacle-free pathways and tactile pavements.
In our hearts: Recognizing that sight loss does not mean a loss of vision, talent, or potential.
Our students aren’t letting darkness limit where they can go. With a white cane in hand and hope in their hearts, they are walking boldly into bright futures.
